Discover the experience of creating your own cabochon

Natural stones have something difficult to explain.
Color, veins, shapes, small imperfections... each one seems to hold its own identity.
In jewelry, the cabochon is one of the most traditional and artisanal ways of working with a stone. It is not faceted or seeking industrial perfection. It is worked little by little until a soft, organic, and balanced shape is found that allows the stone to speak for itself.
That's why this new experience was born at Anillarte: a workshop designed to discover the process of artisanal lapidary by creating your own cabochon from scratch.
What is a cabochon?
A cabochon is a polished stone with a smooth, rounded surface, usually in simple shapes like oval or teardrop.
Unlike other types of cuts, the focus here is on:
- the stone's natural color
- its veins
- the texture
- and the final shape created by hand
Each cabochon is unique.
Artisanal lapidary workshop in Madrid
During this experience, you will work with a natural turquoise selected and prepared specifically to be worked on during the workshop.
The process includes:
- cutting
- grinding
- shaping
- sanding
- final polishing
All performed using real lapidary tools and machinery.
No prior experience is necessary.
The idea is not to learn jewelry in a technical or professional way, but to experience the artisanal process and understand how a natural stone is gradually transformed into a finished piece.
Creating a stone to turn it into jewelry
One of the most special parts of this experience is understanding that the jewelry doesn't start with the metal... it starts with the stone.
The cabochon you create can be kept as a unique piece or later transformed into an artisanal silver pendant made in the Anillarte workshop.
Each stone ends up having a different presence depending on:
- the chosen shape
- the type of vein
- the polish
- the symmetry
- or even small irregularities that appear during the work
And that is precisely where much of its beauty lies.
Selected natural turquoises
For this experience, we will primarily work with natural turquoises selected from my personal collection.
Each one has been chosen for:
- good color
- stability
- ease of working
- and an attractive visual result even for people without prior experience
The currently available shapes are:
- Oval
- Teardrop
With an approximate size of 2 cm x 1.5 cm.
An individual and artisanal experience
The workshop is conducted individually to provide closer guidance and adapt to each person.
It is not a massive class or a quick activity.
The idea is to work calmly, understand the material, and enjoy the entire process step by step.
More than a stone
When you finish a cabochon you've made yourself, your way of looking at stones and artisanal jewelry completely changes.
You begin to understand:
- how each curve influences
- how the shine changes with polishing
- how the veins appear
- or how small details completely modify the final result
And that gives the piece a completely different connection.
